Torshavn, Faroe Islands

21st-22nd October 2017

Following excellent competition results and a week long summer training camp in Barcelona, Garioch Glitter Girl - Izzy Tolometti - was selected to represent Scotland at the Northern European Championships in The Faroe Islands.  One of Garioch’s Senior Elite coaches – Cathy Osborne – was also selected as a Scotland team coach for this event.  Izzy was selected as the team captain for the competition.

The All-Around and Team competition took place on the Saturday where Izzy finished a fabulous 14th place all-around.  The team competition was a very closely fought competition with several teams in contention for the medals.  In a very tense battle Scotland narrowly beat Finland to win a brilliant Team BRONZE.  Scotland have not won a team medal at this event for several years so understandably the whole team were overjoyed with the efforts of the girls.

Sunday’s competition was the Apparatus Finals, the previous day Izzy had qualified for the Beam final so once again she was ready to compete.  Izzy performed another clean beam routine but in a very high calibre and close field she finished in 5th place, just missing out on an individual medal by 0.1.

As one of Scotland’s leading female gymnasts National & International training and competitions do not come cheap and we are very grateful for the financial support Izzy receives from The Robertson Trust and the Inverurie Youth Sports Foundation.  In addition to her gymnastics training at Garioch Gymnastics Club, her training is complimented by Strength & Conditioning support from Ross at the Garioch Sports Centre, Deeside Physiotherapy, Sublime Pilates and her sports scholarship at Robert Gordons University as well as the technical and support services on offer through Scottish Gymnastics for which we are also extremely grateful.
