Saturday 26th November 2017

Bells Sports Centre, Perth

The final national competition of the year saw our Level 4 and Gordon Forster teams take to the floor in the team championships in Perth while many of the younger girls were involved in the St Andrews Day Parade in Inverurie, an annual event which our gymnasts thoroughly enjoy being invited to be part of.

The Garioch level 4 team were made up of Kirsten, Lucy, Eryn, Natasha, Aphra and Casey.  It was an extremely tough competition with some excellent teams competing.  Our Level 4 team placed a very impressive BRONZE Overall with Casey Reid, one of the youngest competitors of the day, placing BRONZE Overall individually, 8th on Bars, 9th on Beam and 5th on Floor.  Aphra Davidson also secured a BRONZE medal for her beam routine.

The Gordon Forster team competition consisted of some of the best elite gymnasts/ clubs in the country.   The Garioch Team were Megan Wright, Izzy Tolometti, Erin Fraser, Emily Morrison, Teagan Batho & Brooke Masson also secured the BRONZE team medal in this event.  Individually Izzy placed GOLD overall as well as winning GOLD on Bars, SILVER on Vault & Floor, 5th on Beam.  Erin Fraser placed 6th Overall with a 5th place finish for her floor routine.  Megan was 7th on Bars.

The coaches at Garioch are very proud of all the girls who competed at the weekend, as a club we were alone in reaching the podium in both events, showing our strength & depth in talent as well as the hard work of the whole coaching team.  It was a very glittering end to the National competition season!

Following excellent competition results, Garioch Glitter Girl Brooke was selected to represent Scotland at her first International competition - the Sandra Clark Cup in Nottingham. This was the first International competition for Brooke   One of Garioch’s Senior Elite coaches – Jamie Czop – was also selected as a Scotland team coach for this event whilst another Garioch Elite coach – Jen Swan – was selected as Team Manager.

Brooke was selected along with 7 other young Scottish gymnasts, to attend the 6 days in Nottingham as part of the National Performance Programme.  The format included a training camp at either side of the competition weekend.  Leading the camp was Scotland technical Director of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics – Claire Barbieri – formally coach to Olympians Becky & Ellie Downie.

Brooke competed on the Sunday in the Espoir open section where she scored a personal best and placed a fabulous 5th place All-Around.  Collectively the team were crowned with SILVER medals and individually Brooke earned herself a BRONZE medal for bars.

Brooke is the third Garioch gymnast to represent Scotland and second in an International in less than a month which shows the strength and depth of talent Garioch Gymnastics Club have coming through as well as the quality of coaching on offer throughout the club.  An extremely hard working young gymnast, all at the club are very proud of her well-deserved success and achievements.

Glitter girl, Casey excelled herself at the recent British Voluntary Level 4 Championships by becoming the 9th best 9 year old gymnast in Great Britain.  This is amongst the highest placing any Scottish gymnast has achieved at this prestigious event.

Casey qualified to compete at the British event by competing in the Scottish Voluntary Level 4 Championships in October which she won with ease.  The top 4 from that event were selected to represent Scotland at the British Final.  Casey further cemented her position as the Number 1 Level 4 gymnast in Scotland by being the highest placed Scottish gymnast in Guildford.  Casey’s coach Emily also travelled to Guildford as a Scotland team coach and was obviously delighted with the result.

Casey and her team mates at Garioch have a bright future in gymnastics and are definitely ones to watch.  As well as being talented Casey, is a very hard working young lady and all at the club would like to congratulate her and coach Emily on their well-deserved success.
